04/11/2011, Nice, France – QUBYX has announced the official release of its medical display calibration and QA software PerfectLum Suite. The software, designed to improve imaging precision of medical monitors, used for X-Ray viewing, mammography, MRI and other radiology sub industries, is now able to not only calibrate a display, but also perform acceptance and constancy tests to AAPM TG18, DIN 6868-57, JESRA X-0093 and IEC 62563-1 standards. With the free Remote display management capabilities PerfectLum Suite medical display QA tool allows centralized medical monitor quality assurance.

“We have designed PerfectLum Suite as a complete display management tool that is aimed at making medical monitor quality assurance more time- and cost-efficient,” says Marc Leppla, Director of QUBYX. “We believe the QA and Remote display management features of PerfectLum will provide important benefits for our customers.”

PerfectLum Suite medical monitor QA application performs AAPM TG18, DIN 6868-57, JESRA X-0093 and IEC 62563-1 acceptance and constancy tests, as well as calibration conformance, white level and uniformity checks. When a display is first installed, an acceptance test is performed to verify if it meets the requirements necessary for the usage in diagnostics and reviewing of medical images. As soon as the acceptance test is passed, the medical display QA application schedules corresponding constancy tests automatically, calculating due dates for them and reminding the user to perform them when they are due. The quality assurance tests in PerfectLum Suite are designed to make the test procedure as easy and accurate as possible.

In addition to acceptance and constancy tests, quality assurance features of PerfectLum Suite include white level check, calibration conformance, and uniformity check. These features allow the user to verify that the white level of the display is within the required range, to assure that calibration parameters remain in accordance with targets set in calibration preferences, and to measure luminance deviations across the screen. The quality assurance capabilities of PerfectLum Suite ensure that the displays, used for diagnostics and reviewing of medical images, meet the requirements of key medical standards and remain within these requirements over time. Medical monitor quality assurance with PerfectLum Suite will provide confidence in the accuracy of diagnosis for medical imaging professionals.

PerfectLum Suite features a free Remote display QA system that enables a QA supervisor or a system administrator to schedule and start tasks for an unlimited number of workstations and healthcare facilities remotely. Staying in the office, the administrator can control performance of multiple displays from a locally installed or a web server, with a 24-hour access to any of the connected client machines. An e-mail alert system notifies the administrator whenever a task is failed on a client machine. The ability of PerfectLum to set up calibration and monitoring tasks from a central server contributes to considerable time and cost saving. With PerfectLum Suite Remote display management system, QA supervisors will benefit from not spending money on travelling from one facility to another, and the hospitals they manage will not have to interrupt the workflow and will be able to focus on diagnostics.

Besides cutting down expenses on medical monitor quality assurance, PerfectLum Suite enables hospitals to make additional cost savings. Utilizing the combination of quality consumer displays and PerfectLum Suite, healthcare facilities will make substantial cost savings, as compared to specialized medical displays, without having to compromise imaging quality.

11/07/2011, Nice, France – QUBYX has announced the official release of the new version 3 of its medical display calibration software PerfectLum. The DICOM calibration tool is designed to improve imaging precision of medical monitors, used for X-Ray viewing, mammoghraphy, MRI and other radiology subindustries, and is based on such standards, as DICOM part 14 GSDF, AAPM TG18, DIN 6868-57, JESRA X-0093 and IEC 62563-1.

PerfectLum 3.0 performs DICOM, CIE L* and Gamma calibration on white and all gray levels, allowing more accurate images and more exact readings for radiology professionals. The medical monitor calibration software verifies DICOM conformance, checks the white level, luminance level, and display consistency over time, using customized test patterns. Other important features include flexible tasks scheduling, using reminders; detailed reports with graphs, that are stored in automatically backed up history database; calibration of multiple monitors connected to one workstation; free remote control license, allowing to manage multiple workstations or locations from the server.

The new version of PerfectLum DICOM calibration software allows a much faster and higher-quality calibration along with a user-friendlier interface and more detailed calibration reports, as compared to version 2.0. New features like display consistency check were added. Moreover, version 3.0 is considerably safer, with its automatic database back up, password-protected preferences and LUT security (LUT is applied only after its quality is verified, poor LUT result will not be applied and the display will be set to pre-calibration status). In addition to this, PerfectLum version 3.0 supports more models of displays and measurement devices, than its predecessor. Upgrade from version 2.0 can be done easily, with all history and preferences data transferred to the new version automatically.

“We are very grateful to our customers and partners for providing constant feedback on our products. It is their suggestions that helped us to create the new improved version of PerfectLum,” says Marc Leppla, Director and CTO of QUBYX. “We hope this update will ensure even higher performance of medical monitors for our customers.”

PerfectLum medical display calibration software provides confidence in display image quality for radiology professionals and easy full-time quality control for QA technicians. Highly precise images on PerfectLum calibrated displays allow more accurate diagnosis, which is a matter of health care quality for radiologists.

The ability of PerfectLum to set up calibration and monitoring tasks from a central server contributes to considerable time and cost saving. Moreover, professional monitors quality will be maintained throughout their usable life, with PerfectLum making them function much longer. Now clinics do not have to update their displays in the course of time, which allows substantial cost savings. Due to its Windows and Mac compatibility, as well as multiple monitor and sensor models support, PerfectLum version 3.0 can be easily used on almost any medical imaging system, already functioning in a radiology location.

PerfectLum 3 medical display calibration software calibrates any computer display and projector to the international standard DICOM Part14 GSDF. PerfectLum 3 also adjusts the white level of the display, verifies calibration results and reports them in a history database.

PerfectLum 3 functions are listed below:

Calibration Section

Grayscale and color calibration

The calibration function allows you to calibrate your display according to the settings in preferences. Such calibration types as DICOM, Gamma, and CIE L* are possible with PerfectLum medical monitor calibration tool.

The medical monitor calibration software performs calibration on all shades of gray, achieving neutral gray shades and the lowest Delta E values. It also adjusts the white point to the desired target value in candelas, defined in preferences. This ensures that the observer sees colors correctly, as the aspect of an image is influenced by colors in the grays, not just luminance.

Uniformity correction

PerfectLum medical display calibration application is able to correct luminance uniformity of a display. For example, if a display is 30% off in luminance from the center, PerfectLum can correct that down to 3%. A non-uniform display cannot be used in diagnostic medicine.

Automatic display adjustment

PerfectLum medical monitor calibration tool automatically adjusts display settings over the DDC/CI channel so that you don’t have to go into the OSD menu of the monitor. The display is automatically adjusted to a desired white level and optimum color temperature to ensure fast and easy calibration as well as high quality results.

Hardware calibration

Rather than saving on your computer’s graphics card, LUT (Look Up Table) calibration is saved inside any supported display. This secures the high precision of color temperature, gray shades, luminance and black point.

ICC profile generation

In the process of calibration a version 4 ICC profile with 3-dimensional color instruments and 16 bit precision is generated to save color characteristics for the given device. All colors in the created profile have low Delta E values. This profile allows cross-platform communication of color and ensures color-accurate viewing for all devices involved in image reproduction.

Start your calibration

First select the display you want to calibrate from the menu on the left, connect your measurement device, and then press the “Calibration” button – that’s all.

How To Match Two Displays For Identical Image Reproduction

Utilizing an application with two or more displays connected to one workstation side by side, or several displays connected to different workstations, you expect your images to look identical on every display.

For the images to look exactly the same on different displays, the displays are to reproduce them in an identical way. To achieve that, the following characteristics are to be the same on every display:

color temperature

white level

luminance response (often called Gamma)

To obtain the same color temperature on every display, one needs to correct it over the entire dynamic range of each display – from black to white. The adjustment of color temperature can be done either over the internal LUT of the display or over the graphics card LUT.

In addition to this, all displays are to have the same white level / maximum luminance. The white level is measured on DDL (Digital Driving Level) 255 in the center of the display. Luminance adjustment should be done over the brightness adjustment of the display.

The third factor that influences image reproduction is the luminance response of a display, also known as Gamma. There exist different types of luminance response, such as DICOM, CIE L*, or Gamma. The luminance response value is to be the same on all displays. The adjustment is to be done over the internal LUT of the display or over the graphics card LUT.

Procedure:

Make sure all displays are set to the same values over the display OSD. Especially important are the color pre-settings, the brightness, and the contrast settings. Doing a factory reset on all displays can be helpful to make sure all of them start from a similar level.

Use only one measurement device. Measurement devices, unfortunately, still have considerable deviations when measuring color. So it is recommended to use the same device on all displays.

Identify the weakest display. If you want all displays to have the same white level, you need to know which of them has the lowest one and measure it. This white level will become the target value for all displays. It is important to have the same white level on displays that are connected to one workstation and installed side by side.

Set your target values for white level, color temperature and luminance response in PerfectLum Preferences.

Perform a display calibration with those same settings on each of your displays.

Today in most of the countries performance of medical displays is regulated and controlled by specific standards, imposed by legal bodies. PerfectLum Suite is a medical monitor quality control tool, developed to perform quality assurance operations on any display, used for diagnostic and reviewing of medical images.

The Quality Assurance section of PerfectLum Suite makes sure medical displays meet the requirements of key standards and remain within them over time. PerfectLum Suite medical display QA software performs acceptance and constancy tests to such standards as AAPM TG18, DIN 6868-57, new DIN 6868-157, JESRA X-0093, and IEC 62563-1.

PerfectLum Suite medical monitor QA tool also performs conformance checks to verify calibration as well as white level and uniformity of the display. With PerfectLum Suite conformance features medical imaging professionals can be confident in the performance of their displays, and thus the accuracy of their diagnoses.

The functionality of the medical monitor Quality Assurance section is as follows:

Acceptance test

An acceptance test is to be performed to verify if a display meets the standards necessary for its usage. Supported regulations are American AAPM TG18, German DIN 6868-57 and the new DIN 6868-157, Japanese JESRA X-0093, European IEC 62563-1, and their associated display categories.

Constancy test

As soon as the acceptance test is passed, corresponding constancy tests are scheduled automatically. The medical display QA software calculates the dates when constancy tests are due and reminds the user to perform them, even if PerfectLum is not running on the date.

The acceptance and constancy tests in PerfectLum Suite medical display QA tool consist of measurement steps, which require a measurement device, and visual steps, based on test patterns like TG18, Briggs, SMPTE, AAPM and user defined ones. The steps are designed to make test procedures as easy and accurate as possible. No need to spend hours interpreting the regulations – PerfectLum Suite has already done that!

Calibration conformance

Verifies the conformance of the display according to the preferences you have selected as calibration targets.

Starting calibration conformance in PerfectLum medical display QA tool.

Calibration conformance report in PerfectLum Suite medical monitor QA tool.

White level check

Verifies luminance level of the display, checking whether it remains within the desired range.

Uniformity check

Checks luminance deviation across the screen. It is mandatory for this deviation to remain within a certain range. For example, a display with a non-uniformity of more than 15% can no longer be used in Germany as it would not meet the German DIN 6868-57 standard.

History and Reports

For every operation (e.g. calibration, acceptance test, quality assurance, etc.) a detailed report with graphs is created. The report can be accessed, downloaded as a .pdf file and printed at any time. Reports are saved in history database to provide proof of maintenance for the display. Automatic backup is performed for history database to ensure not a letter is lost.

Task Scheduling

PerfectLum Suite medical monitor QA tool features a Scheduler for easier planning of calibration and quality assurance operations. A calibration or QA task can be scheduled to be performed only once or on a regular basis. On the due date, a reminder will pop up and ask the user if the task is to be performed or delayed. If the task is delayed, the reminder will appear again at the specified time.

PerfectLum goes with a completely free Remote Management license. PerfectLum Remote Control is a centralized remote display management system, enabling a system administrator to control all displays in multiple hospitals and radiology practices from a single location. And the best thing about it is – it is totally FREE.

Total 24-hour Control

With PerfectLum Remote display management a system administrator can calibrate and verify all displays in multiple hospitals and radiology practices from a single location, with a 24-hour access to any of the connected client machines. Staying in the office, the administrator can control performance of hundreds of displays, even if they are located on the other side of the planet. Via a well structured tree menu all information about any workstation and display can be accessed.

If there is a problem with a display – e.g. failed calibration or quality control test – the supervisor will be informed about the display’s status on the home page.

Moreover, an automatic alert system notifies the administrator via e-mail whenever a calibration or a QA test on one of the client machines is failed.

Local, web-based or relay server

There are various possibilities of running the Remote server. PerfectLum Remote server can be installed in a local network and function without an internet connection. A web server can also be used, connecting all client machines directly to the server. Finally, a relay server can be installed in the local network, being connected both to this local network and the internet with its two ethernet boards. In this way, relay server allows the user to use a local network (without internet access), but still run a web-based server. When forwarding data from the local network to the web server, relay server encrypts it to ensure data security.

Scheduling of Tasks

PerfectLum Remote display QA system shows overviews of due tasks for every workstation and display with the possibility to add or delete tasks like display calibration or white level check.

Reports, History and Statistics

Reports and history with results of any procedure for any of the connected client machines can be viewed at any time using PerfectLum Remote display management system.

For every display there is an extensive statistic section with over time curves of white and black points, AAPM deviation, display working hours, etc.

Asset Management

PerfectLum Remote display QA tool not only allows the user to maintain the quality of displays, but is also a helpful partner in tracking and managing assets. All displays can be searched for serial numbers and model numbers or inventory numbers.

Asset management in PerfectLum Remote display management system.

Saving Time and Costs

Quality Assurance procedures are rather costly and time-consuming for both healthcare facilities and QA supervisors who manage them. Some of the quality assurance supervisors run dozens of hospitals countrywide, so maintaining quality of every display in each of them is a very challenging task. With PerfectLum Suite Remote display management system supervisors will benefit from not wasting time and money on travelling from hospital to hospital, and hospitals will not have to interrupt the workflow and lose precious time, thus being able to focus on diagnostics.

PerfectLum is a software to calibrate and verify medical displays that are used for Diagnostics or Viewing of medical images coming in widest sense from biological- medical- Imaging, radiology, radiological sciences, endoscopy, Tomography, Ultrasound, medical photography and microscopy.

PerfectLum is a DICOM calibration software and a medical display quality control application, designed to calibrate and verify medical displays that are used for diagnostics or viewing of medical images in radiology, radiological sciences, endoscopy, tomography, ultrasound, medical photography and microscopy.

Qubyx offers PerfectLum 3 medical display calibration application and PerfectLum Suite, a medical monitor quality control tool – both based on the medical standards NEMA DICOM part 14 GSDF, AAPM TG18, DIN 6868-57, JESRA X-0093 and IEC 62563-1. PerfectLum 3 is designed to perform calibration to these standards, while PerfectLum Suite software performs not only calibration, but also acceptance and constancy tests, as well as maintains consistency to all medical workstations. Use of this medical display QA tool enables healthcare professionals to maintain their displays to international standards of quality.

License supports all users on the installed workstation

Remote display management system

Automated medical monitor quality assurance

Why PerfectLum?

Extremely precise calibration

The medical display calibration software performs calibration on all shades of gray, achieving neutral gray shades and the lowest Delta E values. It also adjusts the white point to the desired target value in candelas, defined in preferences. This ensures that the observer sees colors correctly, as the aspect of an image is influenced by colors in the grays, not just luminance.

Conformance to international standards

PerfectLum medical display calibration tool performs DICOM part 14 GSDF, CIE L* and Gamma calibrations to ensure that a display conforms to most demanding requirements. PerfectLum DICOM calibration guarantees quality of images for diagnostic images professionals, and thus ensures accuracy of diagnosis.

Standardized quality control

PerfectLum Suite medical monitor QA tool performs acceptance and constancy tests to AAPM TG18, DIN 6868-57, new DIN 6868-157, JESRA X-0093, and IEC 62563-1, making the test procedure as simple as possible. Medical display quality assurance becomes easier than ever.

Easy and centralized display management

With PerfectLum Remote display management system, an unlimited number of displays in multiple healthcare facilities can be controlled remotely. No need to visit each clinic for quality assurance procedures – every test can be run remotely from the server!

Tremendous cost savings

The combination of PerfectLum medical monitor calibration and QA tool and a quality consumer display can outperform most expensive displays on the medical market, and also save thousands of dollars. While the average total price for a commercial display and PerfectLum bundle would make less than 2.000 USD, the average sales price for similar 4mp medical-grade monitors is approximately 6.900 USD. This enables hospitals, utilizing hundreds of such displays for diagnostics and reviewing of medical images, to make enormous cost savings of up to 300%.
