The DIN 6868-157 test is improved and works just great. Some slight corrections were made to the AAPM TG-18 test. Even faster calibration is enabled in the updated version. If you want more details, feel free to peruse the release notes.

FDA Approves Dell UP3216Q Monitor and PerfectLum for Diagnostic Use

22 August 2016, Wilmington, Delaware, USA – Qubyx Software Technologies Inc., the U.S. software maker, announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued 510(k) clearance for the Dell Ultrasharp UP3216Q monitor and PerfectLum, the company’s calibration and quality assurance software for medical purposes.
Dell UltraSharp UP3216Q is a 31.5 -inch 8MP medical monitor with a resolution of 3840 х 2160 pixels, a typical brightness of 300 cd/m2 and IPS (in-plane switching) panel technology. The monitor is designed to provide consistent colors, a bright picture from different angles and brilliance across the color spectrum. In order to improve colour accuracy further, we bundled the monitor with PerfectLum application which enables DICOM conformance and luminance checks, as well as acceptance and constancy tests. The bundle has received the FDA 510 (k) clearance as a medical device and is intended to be used for displaying and viewing medical images, for review and analysis by trained medical practitioners.

QUBYX Is Going To Team Up With Display Manufacturers To Increase The Value Of Image Reproduction Hardware

The real requirement for monitor calibration is actually very obvious, as without it you will never be able to see images as they were intended. This is true for both, TV and computer displays used for different purposes, either for professional or home consumer needs.

Nowadays most displays are provided with factory calibration. Unfortunately the monitors almost never reproduce colors exactly the same, even if they are identical brands and models. This can be explained by the fact that even the same models can be manufactured in different facilities and not in the same way. In addition, despite of being factory calibrated, displays tend to change over time, which influences the accuracy of the image reproduction.

Beyond this, many TV and computer displays are provided with different ‘professional’ calibration pre-sets, which are apparently aimed to improve and adjust image quality. In fact such settings shouldn’t be considered as the accurate ones.

A lot of display manufacturers offer calibration software and a puck packaged with the display to let a user to perform software calibration if he wants to. Software calibration works by modifying the colors via the computer graphics board and loading those colors every time after booting up into your operating system.

But if you are serious about calibration, the best options for you are to use a display’s LUT (Look Up Table) or 3D LUT. Hardware calibration generates a Look-Up Table that is written into the monitor to map all the colors. Brightness, contrast and color levels will be automatically adjusted by the display through calibration software. Compared to software, hardware calibration (so called ‘internal’ calibration) is more accurate, faster and easier.

Cleared by the FDA, PerfectLum and Dell U3014 bundle will now be marketed in the US and other countries as a display for viewing medical images, review and analysis by trained medical practitioners.

Dell Ultrasharp U3014 overview

Dell U3014 is a 30” 4MP primary display with IPS panel, extremely stable LED backlight and a resolution of 2560×1600 pixel. With U3014 the user can see more detail in gray shades and view life like images at 120% typical color gamut and color depth of 1.07 billion colors enabled by the 12-bit internal processing and a 14-bit look-up table (LUT).

QUBYX PerfectLum DICOM calibration software enhances the performance of displays in accordance with medical imaging requirements, including NEMA DICOM part 14 GSDF. The Valley Hospital Upgrades Medical Display QA Software

QUBYX DICOM Calibration Tool with DELL Displays FDA Certified

06/02/2012, Wilmington, DE, USA – QUBYX Software Technologies Inc., an expert in color calibration and medical imaging fields, has announced that their bundle of PerfectLum 3.0 DICOM calibration software and the premium DELL UltraSharp U3011 display has received the Food & Drug Administration 510(k) market clearance for diagnostic reading, which allows the company to position the device as a professional medical one.

“We are very pleased to have now not only European CE Mark for PerfectLum software, but also the FDA clearance for PerfectLum and the DELL 4 MP display bundle,” says Marc Leppla, Director of QUBYX. “The FDA clearance allows the bundle to officially enter the US and international markets as a medical device. The DELL UltraSharp U3011 is a 30-inch 4MP display with a resolution of 2560×1600 pixels, a typical brightness of 370 cd/m2 and IPS (in-plane switching) panel technology. The display is designed to provide more consistent colors, a brighter picture from different angles and brilliance across the color spectrum. It allows the user to experience lifelike visuals at 117% (CIE 1976) typical color gamut and to see more detail in grayscales. Multiple connectivity thanks to DisplayPort, two HDMI 1.3 and two DVI-D connectors is also one of UltraSharp U3011 remarkable features.

The medical monitor calibration application PerfectLum 3.0 allows to use this high quality display for viewing of medical images and diagnostics. The UltraSharp monitor in bundle with PerfectLum is delivered calibrated to DICOM GSDF part 14 standard. QUBYX Integrated PEHAMED Meters in Medical Monitor QA Tool

11/22/2011, Nice, France – QUBYX, a technology contributor to medical imaging and color management industries, today announced that it has integrated digital luminance meters CD-Mon and CD-Lux by PEHA Medical Equipment GmbH, designed to perform acceptance and constancy tests on medical monitors, in PerfectLum 3.0 medical display quality control application. Now PerfectLum supports even more models of measurement devices.

PEHAMED CD-Mon and CD-Lux are digital luminance meters, designed to perform acceptance and constancy tests on image displays devices, such as monitors, screens or image display units according to DIN V 6868-57, and on viewing devices according to DIN 6856. These high-end sensors measure luminance, including the influence of ambient light, on medical imaging devices.

With PerfectLum 3.0 DICOM calibration application, PEHAMED luminance meters can now be used not only for acceptance and constancy tests, but also for DICOM calibration. DICOM Calibration Software PerfectLum 3.0 Released

11/07/2011, Nice, France – QUBYX has announced the official release of the new version 3 of its medical display calibration software PerfectLum. The DICOM calibration tool is designed to improve imaging precision of medical monitors, used for X-Ray viewing, mammoghraphy, MRI and other radiology subindustries, and is based on such standards, as DICOM part 14 GSDF, AAPM TG18, DIN 6868-57, JESRA X-0093 and IEC 62563-1.

PerfectLum 3.0 performs DICOM, CIE L* and Gamma calibration on white and all gray levels, allowing more accurate images and more exact readings for radiology professionals. The medical monitor calibration software verifies DICOM conformance, checks the white level, luminance level, and display consistency over time, using customized test patterns. Other important features include flexible tasks scheduling, using reminders; detailed reports with graphs, that are stored in automatically backed up history database; calibration of multiple monitors connected to one workstation; free remote control license, allowing to manage multiple workstations or locations from the server.

The new version of PerfectLum DICOM calibration software allows a much faster and higher-quality calibration along with a user-friendlier interface and more detailed calibration reports, as compared to version 2.0. New features like display consistency check were added. Moreover, version 3.0 is considerably safer, with its automatic database back up, password-protected preferences and LUT security (LUT is applied only after its quality is verified, poor LUT result will not be applied and the display will be set to pre-calibration status). In addition to this, PerfectLum version 3.0 supports more models of displays and measurement devices, than its predecessor. Upgrade from version 2.0 can be done easily, with all history and preferences data transferred to the new version automatically.
